As a mother of a 12yr old son with Autism, Adhd, intellectual disability, epilepsy etc i found your blog a useful memo to remind me of the emotional, enviromental and personal frustrations my son experiences. Whilst i'm not naive to his challanges i can sometimes lose sight of the difficulties that impend on his ability to learn, communicate and function. Thank you for sharing your story.

Lyn you're welcome!

As an adult I've managed to develop a reasonably good level of control over my reactions but it has taken a lot of effort and is still hard at times. I often wonder about how children cope with the stresses that can be so overwhelming. I think the biggest factor is patience and giving them the time to come to terms with whats happening.
As an aspie, I should know better but the truth is I often loose site of this with my own son and grow frustrated with his meltdowns. I am slowly learning not to beat myself up when it happens and to say those two magic words 'i'm sorry' and try again. We are human after all!
Thanks for posting!
